I had to work with Typo3 some time ago. I wanted to add a javascript-foldout menu from Peter Klein.
At first I got a very long, and deeply structured menu. It was fully open and all of its parent and child elements were shown. After loading all levels are hidden. With click on the icons the menu unfolded. That corresponds to the normal structure of correct menus where Javasript is unnecessary.
The supposed advantage of Peter Klein’s script is that it remembered which points of navigation are open and these keep open. For a normal well structured side this application isn’t necessary. In the available case it acted over an online manual. So reading became clearer while the navigation was open, and users could see what they had read already.
